Alexandra Shorey
'My
work, consisting primarily of equine sculpture
is inspired by the grace and beauty of the
horse. I strive to capture the subtle body
language and emotional sensitivity of the
animal, through simplicity of form and pose.
As a life long horse owner I have gained an
intimate knowledge of their behaviour and
physiology, allowing me to work freely with
the horse without the need to take drawings or
photographs. My horses come from within, they
express my deep love for the horse and the
relationships I have had with them, their
sorrows and joys, their courage and trust for
their human companions moves me greatly.
I work with a variety of materials, including
welded steel, found objects, clay, plaster,
wax, cast bronze, burnt materials, wire and
wood from small table top pieces to larger
than life-size'.
Born in Oxford in 1979, Alexandra now lives in
Yorkshire, where she works from her home
studio and metals workshop.
Alexandra graduated from the University of
Derby with a BA Honours in Fine Art in 2004
and immediately began successfully exhibiting
her sculpture in galleries and art fairs both
here in the UK and internationally.
Alexandra can produce work that is suited
in both indoors and outdoors environments and
she is looking to secure private commissions
of her unique horses in both the private and
public sectors. She can produce
commissions in many materials including
bronze, silver or mixed media. This is
an up and coming young British artist and
defiantly one of great investment value for
the future.
